Suren started performing with us in early 2016 and after a great run at the 2017 Melbourne International Comedy Festival, Suren is bringing his latest solo comedy show, Deus Eczemachina home to Sydney!
In Greek Theatre, Deus Ex Machina, meaning ‘God from the machinery’, referred to actors representing gods who were suspended above the stage, only to intervene in the final act to bring about a convenient yet contrived resolution to the story.
In Suren Jayemanne’s third solo show at the Sydney Comedy Festival, Deus Eczemachina, meaning ‘God with eczema from the machinery’, due to budget constraints, some artist’s alliance twerp banging on about ‘health and safety’, and gravity, no actors will be suspended above the stage.
Jayemanne has been praised for his comedy that plays on cultural differences yet doesn’t divide, proving to be at once challenging and hilarious.
“at least a laugh a minute… f*cking hilarious” ★★★★ The Daily Review
