Sean Morahan – ‘Spirit of the Fringe’

The Sydney Fringe awards were held last night at the Fringe Hub at Kings Cross Hotel. The founder of A Laugh And A Half and producer of the 10 Comedians shows, Sean Morahan was presented with the Archie Rose Spirit of the Fringe Award.

Sydney Fringe Director and CEO Kerri Glasscock said that the decision was unanimous. Kerri also mentioned that the award hasn’t previously gone to anyone in the comedy genre.

Sean’s response to receiving the award:

“Thank you to Kerri, to Sydney Fringe and to Archie Rose for this award. Thank you to the whole Sydney Fringe team as well for all the opportunities that they create – and the support that they provide – for so many artists including me and the comedians I work with. Dino Dimitriadis in particular has been instrumental in the success of our group – not just at Sydney Fringe but all year round. He is so generous with his comprehensive industry expertise – thank you, Dino.

I believe this reward recognises a lot of what has been achieved by the wonderful, funny and creative people I work with in 10 Comedians during Sydney Fringe – this year as well as in three previous Sydney Fringes. I am so grateful to work with all of these incredibly talented people. I must make special mention of Ben Willshaw and David Poltorak who quietly did phenomenal extra work behind the scenes to ensure the success of our Fringe run this year.

I must also thank our brilliant venues for Sydney Fringe –  Martin and his team at The Bat & Ball Hotel and Dave, Elsa and their team on The Rhythmboat.  They’re not just hosts of our Fringe shows; their support and encouragement are outstanding.

This is also a perfect opportunity to acknowledge my partner Jane who has been unwavering in her support of my comedy, even though she never sees me during September!

It is inspiring to be acknowledged by Sydney Fringe in this way and I’m sure this award will inspire us to do even more at next year’s Fringe and beyond.
